Spoke issues

Post by turk123 » Wed Sep 06, 2017 7:10 pm

Well, it looks like I have the spoke issue. I will provide some image and video soon. I contacted the Mate Help desk. Let's see where that gets me.

This may be an issue of tightening the spokes that are loose to allow them to "seat" in the oversized motor hub holes. I have a spoke wrench coming so I can do this. There was a reference by Mate that some of the material used by the factory to hand make the spokes may be too soft. That may be the reason the spoke on many customers bikes are breaking.

Stay tuned!

Here seems the problem. The holes in the hub are too large. Mxus specs out 12g / 13g spokes. Mate has used 13g so those are correct. But look at the size of the holes in the motor hub.

The spoke is moving in the hole. You can hear a telltale music box kind of sound or clicking if the spokes become loose. It eventually will break at the head. Not all mates have as much space between the hub hole and the spoke. I would compare yours with the images here.

A Mate spokesman (pun) has recently said "Wheels are being sent next week" to those who have had problems with spokes and have filled out a survey form with the Zen desk. There will be some process to return the wheel at no cost to the customer. We will see.
